Family Legacy

Perhaps the greatest individual reward for participating in the Haw River Trail effort is one that cannot be measured in dollars or statistics.  Much of the land surrounding Haw River has been held by the same families for generations, and provides those families with a source of pride and a bond that transcends the changing times.  Conserving family property for the Haw River Trail helps to ensure that the legacy will exist for future generations.

Conservation or trail agreements can help to lower the tax burden faced by heirs, and may help heirs avoid disagreements over the pressure to develop family farms or homeplaces.  Finally, the pride of place that family lands create will be enhanced with the knowledge that the property was used to help the community conserve and enjoy a truly unique natural resource in the Haw River.
